How to pin baste a quilt

How to baste a quilt together ready for quiltingLearn how to pin baste your quilt.

There are a few different ways of making a quilt sandwich.  No, we’re not talking about peanut butter and jam – but about putting together the three layers that make up your quilt prior to quilting it.

This video shows you the most common method for preparing your quilt sandwich for machine quilting on your domestic machine.  Lynn Witzenburg will show you all the steps for pin basting, dealing with lots of issues that catch out newbies (and sometimes not-so-newbies too!) such as pulling your backing fabric too tight.  Have you ever done that and then watched your quilt sandwich wrinkle up when you untape it?  Frustrating!  Lynn uses a tool for doing up her safety pins, but you don’t have to use this – fingers will work.  You can also use a teaspoon or a chopstick, nothing like keeping it low-tech and simple!
