Christmas Gifts for Quilters

Do you want me to tell you how many days it is till Christmas?  I won’t, because it makes me cringe, so I’m sure it does the same to you!  Yes, Christmas is coming, and with it, the season of gift giving and receiving.  Are you swapping Christmas gifts with your stitching group?  Do you have a close friend who sews and quilts?  Fellow sewers and quilters know how much time and effort go into making and giving something handmade, but sometimes it’s hard to come up with ideas.  So  here are some Christmas gift ideas for quilters to get you started.  And many of them are good for non-quilters too – bonus!

I’m going to start with the cutest first.  Sadie Seasongoods created this awesome teapot sewing caddy out of a need to hide her pins from her cat!  Necessity being the mother of all invention sure worked in our favour, because this is a really cool idea.

Here is an adorable scissor case from Ulla’s Quilt World that holds three pairs of scissors.   You could change the colours to suit your intended recipient’s taste and add as much or as little embroidery as you liked.  You will need a few basic sewing skills to complete this one, as no instructions are given, just the pattern, but with a little experimentation, it would come together nicely.

I know zippered pouches are pretty common, but who doesn’t need another one?  They are super useful and made from gorgeous fabric, they are always well received.  Stef from Girl. Inspired. shared a simple zippered clutch tutorial over on I Heart Nap Time blog.  She adds a little bit of whimsy with some lace trim or a ruffle, but it’s still super simple and easy to whip up in no time at all.  This could be a good ‘man present’ too, just alter your fabric choices accordingly and stay away from the lace and ruffles!

Key fobs.  Functional, fun, easy.  What more needs to be said?  You will need the hardware, but you can pick that up at somewhere like Spotlight, and I have seen it at quilting stores and sewing stores too.  This particular key fob tutorial from Fishsticks Design doesn’t use webbing, just fabric and interfacing, so super easy.  And once again, a good ‘man present’.

Okay, I want someone to give me one of these.  An eyeglass case sewing kit is such a neat idea!  I found this on the Sulky blog on a post with a few other great ideas for gifts for quilters.  I’d like one set up for binding and hanging sleeves because that’s what I take out and about with me to hand sew at swimming lessons and doctor’s waiting rooms.
