The Three Dudes Quilt

Two worlds collide! – Man Sewing tutorials and Jenny Doan of Missouri Quilting tutorials!

Check out their channels for some awesome quilting inspiration. This video is particularly cool as I love this gorgeous quilt that seriously looks amazing. I love Rob Appell’s style, and as a more conservative quilter I envy how he does a lot of his quilting on the fly, which is how he produces these awesome ideas time after time.

Again, you have tips and help for the newbies. Just simple things like technique advice on using Jelly rolls better. Rest assured this quilt is definitely easier to assemble than what would first appear!

The Three Dudes quilt as they have named it starts from the middle and then builds outwards with the brightest squares in the center moving out to the very darkest. There are several different ways of building the squares depending on your personal preferences, and Rob talks about the different ways of doing it.

As is typical in his tutorials he is isn’t giving out the exact pattern, more like the frame work to create something similar. There is some great instructions on the cool looking border which I am excited to try. Give this a go, especially those quilter who like tighter boundaries: try and let loose and break some quilting rules!

Let us know how it turns out!

Happy Quilting!

About

Tarnya is Quilting Focus' webmaster and a beginner quilter who hasn’t ventured much outside pre-cuts and quilting in the ditch. She is excited by modern short cut quilting techniques which makes quilting so much more achievable for those who are quite short on time. She enjoys making quilts for her children who she says do not notice mistakes and feel loved by what she makes. "I appreciate how learning and improving my quilting, cross pollinates into other creative areas of my life: for example colour, balance, proportion are important to quilting, but they are also important to web design."
