A pleasant drive northwest of Auckland city brings you to Waimauku Village on State Highway 16 – 31.4 km from the CBD – around 27 minutes if you miss the commuter traffic. In the middle of the village shops is All Things Patchwork – a wonder quilt shop north of Auckland – you can’t miss the large sign or the Bernina sign, or the heaps of parking right outside the shop.
Step inside and you are greeted by an explosion of colour. Glorious colour from the floor to the ceiling! It takes quite a while to meander round the shop oohing and aahing over the threads, the hand dyed wools, voiles, linens and cottons. Just in is a wonderful range of Liberty fabrics and these fabrics fit in beautifully with the Free Spirit, Westminster and a host of other modern, contemporary fabrics. Plus Cheryl also stocks reproduction fabrics and of course patterns and sewing notions. You will be inspired by the completed samples on the shelves, walls and even furniture has been given the full colour treatment.
Cheryl Houston, the owner of All Things Patchwork, is an enthusiastic quilter and happy to answer any questions about quilting, sewing or sewing machines. All Things Patchwork have been a Bernina dealer for the past seven years and pride themselves on Bernina machine servicing within a week. There is an in store qualified mechanic and of course you can try out any of the many Bernina machines that Cheryl has set up including the new sit down Bernina quilting machine.
Truly a destination shopping experience! After you have exhausted all there is to see and purchase you can relax next door with a coffee and admire all your new acquisitions.
